An Investment in Children’s Literacy: Oasis to Host Ribbon-Cutting for New Tutoring Library Made Possible by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation
St. Louis, MO — Oasis Tutoring is celebrating and creating new opportunities for young readers across the St. Louis region with the opening of a new tutoring library that will support area students. Made possible with the support of a $112,000 Dollar General Literacy Foundation youth literacy grant, the new library features high-quality books and educational resources that volunteer tutors can borrow to better support young readers. The collection includes age-appropriate books and lesson materials tailored to students’ individual reading levels and interests.
Oasis will celebrate the library’s grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 5, at 1 p.m. at Oasis’ Northwest Plaza location at 500 Northwest Plaza, Suite 425 in St. Ann. Representatives from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation are currently scheduled to attend.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is free and open to the public. Following the ceremony, guests can enjoy light refreshments, explore the tutoring library, and visit informational tables to learn more about Oasis Tutoring. Staff will be available to answer questions and share how community members can make a difference in the lives of local children through volunteering.
“At Oasis, we believe that every child deserves access to a quality education, and this new library is one more way we’re helping make that possible,” said Stephanie McCreary, Oasis Chief Purpose Officer. “By providing our volunteer tutors with an expanded collection of books and educational resources, we’re equipping them to better meet students where they are and help them grow into confident readers.”
Founded in St. Louis, Oasis Tutoring has grown into a national model for intergenerational connection and is now one of the largest programs of its kind. Today, Oasis Tutoring serves approximately 1,800 kindergarten through third grade students in 181 schools across 40 Missouri school districts. Together, more than 1,200 tutors contribute over 108,000 hours of service each year—an estimated $3.5 million value returned to local schools and communities.
