Volunteer to Mentor a Child in Foster Care

Oasis is immediately recruiting volunteers to train as mentors to assist children in foster care. Training sessions take place monthly.
In St. Louis City and County, hundreds of children are currently residing in foster care. For these youth, having access to caring adults outside of the family is critical. The Oasis Grand Champions program will focus on children ages 14+ to benefit from a mentoring relationship with a caring older adult.
To pair older adults with children in foster care in a life-changing, skill-building mentor-relationship.
The purpose of Oasis Grand Champions is to enrich the lives of older adults and children in foster care by creating a meaningful relationship in which the child feels seen, safe, and experiences a positive affect from a new relationship with a consistent, thoughtful, and responsible adult presence in their lives.
Grand Champions create an opportunity for the child to build necessary life skills in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
- Meet with children for one hour once a week in activity-based sessions geared at providing life skills in a fun and engaging manner.
- Session locations and time may vary and are based on mentor and student availability.
- Training and ongoing support is provided by Oasis as well as materials for sessions.
- No experience needed! A desire to make a difference in the life of a child is the only requirement.
