Pay Attention to Falls

St. Louis Oasis to Host Falls Prevention Awareness Day

Free Event September 21, 2018

According to the National Council on Aging, falls are common in the United States. Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall; every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall. The devastating effects from falls may result in increased healthcare costs. The financial toll for older adult falls is expected to rise as the population ages and may reach $101 billion by 2030.

However, falls are often predictable and largely preventable. To learn how you can take preventative measures, join St. Louis Oasis on Friday, September 21st from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm for Falls Prevention Awareness Day. This FREE event will take place at the Maryland Heights Community Center located at 2300 McKelvey Road, Maryland Heights, MO.  Event activities include falls risk assessments, flu vaccinations, games, giveaways, a light lunch and more! To receive a flu vaccine, remember to bring your insurance card.
