Precious Green remembers when her blood pressure skyrocketed making her nauseous and tired. “I just did not feel well,” she recalls.
Precious is not alone. One in three Americans has high blood pressure, according to the American Heart Association, with almost one in two victims in the African American population.
That is why OASIS and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis have kicked off Get Pumped! with the support of AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation's Connections for Cardiovascular HealthSM.
Targeting nine at-risk zip codes in North County and North City St. Louis, the program offers free community-based health screenings, exercise classes and disease management workshops.
What does success from getting pumped look and feel like? Precious has not only changed how she cooks and eats, which accounts for a 65-pound weight loss, she is also sharing her God given talent of dance. In short order, she has become a favorite OASIS instructor with her “Slide n’ Sweat” class. “The Lord has opened doors for me and shown me how to live a healthier and blessed life!”
Get Pumped! was recently featured on FOX 2 News.
