“Sometimes you just need to be reminded of what to do,” says Betty Swuson, a participant in the Get Pumped! program.

Betty SwusonBetty has borderline diabetes and high blood pressure. A girlfriend told her about Get Pumped! and she decided it was time to get moving.

Get Pumped! is a program offered through a grant from AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation’s Connections for Cadiovascular Health™ program. The goal of the program is to deliver free health screenings, education and exercise programs to St. Louis communities most challenged by cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Betty has been taking a slide class as well as a Pressure Points class that trains her about her high blood pressure and the Healthy Living seminar that helps prevent and control diabetes.

“When Get Pumped! came along it got me out of the house and I really enjoy it,” says Betty. “The instructors are so helpful and the information is right there if you go into it with an open mind. I am starting to have a more energy but I am truly a work in progress,” she says.
